WHAT introducing a beauty section can and will do!?

“What we look like matters more than ever”

Fiona Sinclair Scott is the Global Editor of CNN styleThis week marks the launch of a new Beauty section, offering a global take on personal aesthetics and visual identity.

CNN is introducing a new section to their news and website because it is becoming a new trend. You rarely see a newspaper or an online news source that has a section dedicated to beauty. This article declares why it is important.

“What we look like absolutely matters, and we should strive to understand and embrace what this means for every individual.” When Liebig created the mirror, they were only available the most elite society and today they are surrounded by us everywhere - giving us a constant reminder of what we look like from our own eyes.

Everyone hears the quote “it doesn’t matter what you look like on the outside, it’s the inside that matters”, in one way or another. But the author does not think this is true - she actually believes it does matter and we should try to embrace what this term of “beauty” means for every individual.

With the rise of social media over the years, digital photography and social media have introduced the “selfie” and we are followed by opportunities to either scrutinize or admire the reflection staring back at us. We have become “image-obsessed” humans universally who aim to get the perfect photo.

Fiona Scott believes that how we see sources and how we choose to style ourselves can tell amazing stories about who we are as people. And this was the inspiration for CNN Style to launch a Beauty section with a mission to provide “a truly modern global take on person aesthetics and visual identity”. They want to focus on expanding the definition of beauty - celebrating being an individual, self-expression while tackling some of the most challenging conversations about beauty today.

With social media, I believe a “norm” has evolved that has an image of what society sees the be the perfect woman. To me, some of these characteristics are being skinny, having glowing skin and a bright smile. People who don’t necessarily fit this “norm” either tend to change who they are to mock this definition of beauty or embrace their differences with a positive attitude.

This "ideal woman" image changes as the years go on.

I think this new beauty style will be a great way for people to read up on self-care tips while learning an importance of embracing who they are. This platform has great intentions to show how we have evolved with certain trends or looks and how we can make these new trends our own. This is a great platform that will help to use beauty as a way to reflect on the world.
